The folk process is alive and well among teens

I've been leading a 3-week dance series, geared towards teens. I approached the local non-profit, after-school arts program Ocro Arts Guild and asked if I could do folk dancing with their kids. They not only said yes, they agreed to sponsor the series.
We rented a school gym and have had two weeks of dances already. Next week, the kids will have the opportunity to do folk dancing with local band Cultural Ecology. I think they'll really like that!
The kids are playful, social, great sports, focused, and require a lot of snacks. We were learning the dance "Waves" from Hong Kong - it's a beautiful slow dance in three quarter (waltz) time. There's a part toward the end when the dancers lean right then left with arms outstretched overhead, as if making waves. Then dancers take 4 little waltz steps in a circle around themselves.
I was so tickled when instead of leading each waltz step in that circle with an outstretched arm, Scott used both arms to mock-breast stroke his way around the circle. I'm quite sure I'll never teach it the old way again when dancing with children.
